I'm Building Something...

And I would love your input!

Hello dear readers!

I shared with my readership that along with starting this SubStack I started a consulting LLC, Dirigo Empowerment Institute. I am excited to share that I am building an online training and education center, where I will have a variety of self-paced courses, mainly in areas of prevention science and prevention-adjacent topics.

The first course I am building is a six-module course I’m calling “Cannabis Prevention Crash Course”, because alliteration is cool! My tentative timeline is to have it go live in September. I am sharing with my readership a sign-up form where you can be notified when the course goes live AND you can sign up to be a beta tester of the course. (beta course slots will be limited and first-come, first-served)

So Scott, there are a gazillion webinars and trainings out there on cannabis, why is this different?

I’m glad you asked! This course is specifically tailored for new prevention professionals OR prevention professionals who have been newly assigned to taking on cannabis prevention work. There are a gazillion trainings out there about THC and health impacts, and this will include some content on that, but that knowledge alone doesn’t make change happen in communities.

The emphasis in this course is tangible skills and approaches to selecting the right programs connected to your local data, engaging municipalities and organizations in policy change, and informing everything you do in cannabis prevention by your state’s specific cannabis policies.

This course will also include content on making sure your approaches to cannabis prevention are culturally competent and culturally responsive, which unfortunately is content many federally-funded entities are challenged to provide under the current administration. I also include content on harm reduction approaches for people who are using cannabis.

I’d love to offer this for free but I have two fifteen year olds who want to go to college and, y’know, Russ fired me, so I gotta pay the bills! But I want to make it as affordable as possible.
